Last week, we talked about some of the great fruits and vegetables in season during fall that are powerhouses of nutrition and make delicious meals. While you might think summer is the only time of year that yields great-tasting produce, think again. We’ve got even more fall superfoods for you this week.

Pomegranates

This exotic and tangy fruit has become a popular flavoring in candies, juices, and more. But in its whole form, it packs a powerful antioxidant punch (even more than red wine!), making it well worth the trouble of taking the fruit apart.

These antioxidants can help reduce bad cholesterol and may even help prevent breast cancer and prostate cancer. They also contain good doses of fiber, potassium, and vitamin C. Pomegranate seeds taste great eaten on their own or incorporated into smoothies, sprinkled on salads, or added to breakfast foods like yogurt or oatmeal.

Parsnips

A root vegetable that resembles a white carrot, you may have overlooked these powerful veggies at the supermarket. They contain potassium, fiber, and more, and can be mashed or put into soups and stews.

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes, unlike their starchy counterparts, are packed with nutrition. They contain a high amount of vitamin A, along with iron, calcium, potassium, and antioxidants. They taste great baked or roasted, or tossed into soup or stew. Try a baked sweet potato with goat cheese for a great-tasting, low fat lunch.

Cauliflower

Cauliflower may seem like broccoli’s less exciting cousin, but the white vegetable packs a lot of nutrition and versatility. Cauliflower may help lower cholesterol and cancer risk, and contains vitamin C. Due to its firm texture, cauliflower stands up beautifully to roasting or when used in thick soups, and is a great addition to any meal.

You’re on the Right Track

If you’re maintaining a healthy diet and eating fresh, in-season produce, you’re on the right track to maintaining your long-term health and getting a slim and sexy physique. If you’ve had no luck getting rid of troublesome fat in the abdominal region, however, our NY plastic and cosmetic surgeons may be able to help you with an abdominoplasty procedure.

Our highly-qualified surgeons offer tummy tuck consultations at our Long Island and New York City locations. They would be happy to meet with you today for a free consultation to discuss your needs and concerns about plastic surgery.
