Our Surgeons Discuss Mini vs. Full Tummy Tuck During a Mommy Makeover
At Advanced Cosmetic Surgery of New York, our tummy tuck NYC and Long Island specialists have found the Mommy Makeover to be a very popular plastic surgery for moms. This combination of techniques addresses the most common problem areas for women following pregnancy and childbirth.
Often times at our abdominoplasty New York and Long Island centers, the Mommy Makeover will combine the techniques of the tummy tuck and liposuction with breast procedures like breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction.
The tummy tuck portion of the Mommy Makeover can be performed as either a full or mini tummy tuck as needed.
Plastic Surgery for Moms Can Include a Mini Tummy Tuck at our NYC & Long Island Centers
Our tummy tuck NYC and Long Island specialists are experienced in both the mini tummy tuck and the full tummy tuck.
The mini tummy tuck, also known as partial abdominoplasty, is less invasive than a full tummy tuck and is generally reserved for patients with only a little bit of excess skin and fat in the lower abdominal area below the belly button.
Following pregnancy, many of our abdominoplasty New York patients find that they are left with a small pouch below the belly button and this can often be treated with mini tummy tuck techniques during the Mommy Makeover.
Incisions and resulting tummy tuck scars are typically confined to the pubic area and are shorter than the incision for the full tummy tuck. In some cases, the tummy tuck may be performed through existing C-section scars.
The mini abdominoplasty recovery is less than the full abdominoplasty recovery.
Getting a Full Tummy Tuck at our Abdominoplasty New York Centers
The full tummy tuck or full abdominoplasty is best for those with excess fat and skin of the abdomen requiring more extensive abdominal skin removal as well as more extensive tightening of the abdominal muscles to repair weakness there. This is a more extensive procedure which is commonly performed with general anesthesia, whereas the mini tummy tuck can be performed with intravenous sedation.
Even though many people don’t associate an easy recovery with plastic surgery for moms, a mini tummy tuck can offer a much shorter recover than a full tummy tuck. The full tummy tuck involves a longer incision in the pubic region which runs from hipbone to hipbone, as well as an additional small incision around the navel.
This will result in more extensive tummy tuck scars. In addition, the tummy tuck recovery is longer and more involved after a full tummy tuck procedure.
