New babies are very time-consuming, and it can be difficult to find a moment to shower, let alone work out. Unfortunately, many women are simply not happy with the physical changes that come about after childbirth, especially in the abdominal region.

New moms want to find an exercise plan that fits into their busy lives so they can be great moms and get their old bodies back at the same time. We feel that every mom should be able to look and feel great about herself, so we’ve put together some exercise tips for new moms.

Start Slow

You don’t have to jump right back into an intense workout routine. Easing back into exercise will help prevent injury and burnout and aid in gradual weight loss. This is particularly true if you gave birth via C-section and need to be careful with your incision.

Your doctor will advise you on when you can begin exercising again, but you will have to avoid strenuous activities for at least six weeks. Walking can be a great way to get started gently.

Take Your Baby with You

Can’t get away for even 30 minutes of exercise? Never fear–there are lots of exercises you can do with your little one in tow.

Here are some examples:

  • Dancing with your baby
  • Power walking or running with a jogging stroller
  • Living room yoga with your baby
  • Hiking with your baby in a back or front carrier
  • Group “mommy and me” classes

Exercise Anywhere

If you’re exhausted from sleepless nights, exercising as you go through your daily routine might be the only way to squeeze in a workout. This article provides great tips for working wellness into your daily to-do list.

Remember, your workout can be done in short sections! You don’t have to spend 45 minutes on a treadmill for an effective exercise session.

Be Mindful of Your Muscles

Pregnancy often stretches out the abdominal muscles, making it hard for the stomach to retract to its original shape. Twisting and other intense abdominal muscle exercises can actually inhibit muscle healing and prevent these muscles from tightening up again.

Still Separated?

If you’ve been trying unsuccessfully for quite a while to regain your pre-baby body, your muscles and skin may be beyond self-repair. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) with our NY plastic and cosmetic surgeons might be the best option for resolving these discouraging post-pregnancy issues.

If you’re ready to get back your sleek and sexy stomach, call our mommy makeover experts located in Commack, Long Island and New York, NY to schedule your free abdominoplasty consultation.
